Welcome Author Stacy Hoff!

I’m so excited to be a guest on Madelyn Hill’s blog. Even better (if possible) is being on this blog right before Valentine’s Day. In my opinion, February 14^th—the day to celebrate love—is one of the best times of the year. Of course, as a romance writer, I’m admittedly biased. As far back as I can remember I have been a fan of love stories. No doubt the best part for me has always been, and still remains, the HEA (“happily ever after”).

Writing romance is not just my creative outlet, it’s my life outlet. By day, I’m a lawyer who focuses on contracts. My “day job” is all about business deals, terms and conditions. There is no room for any emotion in these hard-boiled transactions. So I have to wait until nighttime to let loose my desire for fictional matchmaking.

When I do finally get my chance, I revel in the precious little time I have on my Mac. I indulge my need to match up two characters who are seemingly at odds. The fun is getting the hero and the heroine to realize they truly belong together.

My latest novel, DESIRE IN THE ARCTIC, fits this theme perfectly. At first blush, my heroine, Ana Davis, and hero, William “Redd” Redding, are polar opposites. She is talkative while he is taciturn. She is cheerful while he seems determined to brood. She has never been camping. He is an expert survivalist. She is a TV producer from New York City (who has just been promoted from secretary) and he is a newly retired Special Ops Marine, desperate to finally go back to his home in a small, rural Texas town.

Ana and Redd will have to go through a lot emotionally in order to realize they are each other’s soul mate. But, as a writer, their emotional journey alone would not be enough of a challenge. To really put the thumbscrews on my characters I make them go through a strenuous physically journey, too. Specifically, having to survive in the Arctic Circle for twelve days. With limited camping gear. And with weather that is, let’s just say, not ideal.

The best part about DESIRE IN THE ARCTIC, as indeed with every romance novel ever written, is getting to the HEA. Most would agree that the harder the journey the characters go through, the sweeter their reward of love.

This upcoming Valentine’s Day I wish all of you endless love. Because everyone (not just my characters) needs an HEA.
