I've just finished some editing and wanted to flesh out some ideas for a new story. I started thinking about all of the books I've read in the past and how they affect or influence my writing style.
Firstly, Amanda Quick ignited my interest in romance. Secondly, Diana Gabaldon inspired me to write about the Highlands. Thirdly, Nora Roberts instructed me on how to be a prolific writer and remain a great story teller.
There are numerous writers who have encouraged me to look outside the box and bring a new element to my writing. By this I mean, outside the romance box. For I truly believe that in order to be a good writer, you must read, read, read, and read all genres.
One of my guilty pleasures is reading biographies. I love old movies and the classy, regal idea of old hollywood. In fact in my contemporary novels, I often reference Kate Hepburn or Cary Grant, or my favorites Maureen O'Hara and John Wayne. There was something in the way these movie stars conducted their lives that was so different than today's actors. And while I love going to the movies, I truly find it exciting when one of my favorite old movies is on, such as Pillow Talk, The Quiet Man, or Adam's Rib.
Perhaps this is why I love to write historicals. I like to delve into history, find tidbits of information and throw them into the mix. Bring a world to life in my writing all because I've done the research and created a story to suit.

Summer Recap

Hi all! I had an awesome time at Nationals and really learned a lot, met some great people, and networked like crazy. I have also completed my Master's degree and I'm looking to get into the workforce and still have time to write.
Of course that will be easier since summer is almost over and school is about to begin. I'll have some extra time (yeah-right) to work on my books and take care of the family.
Okay, so that's in a perfect world. Instead I'll be shuttling the kids from school to after-school activities such as soccer, dance, karate, and did I say soccer.
But enough about my family life. I really loved Atlanta. It was perfect weather and the people were so friendly. The conference really topped the last one I attended and I found that the writers were there for business and fun. I went to Hard Rock-Atlanta, Pittypats, and walked around just absorbing the atmosphere.
