Darby Adams had a successful Bed and Breakfast Inn, The Brass Lamplighter, until a dead guest was found in one of her rooms. The police and citizens of Driftwood Shores soon make Darby the number one suspect--a murderess. The surviving family wants answers, and prosecution, so they hire Private Investigator Sam Golden to prove Darby's guilt. With all sorts of strange things happening around the B & B, and her world rapidly spinning out of control, Darby desperately needs a friend. Sam begins his new case in the dual role as her sympathetic ally while also looking for evidence to send her to prison.
Until feelings start developing between them. Coupled with the friendship of their teen age kids and the successive mysteries and attacks happening at the B & B, they are constantly pitted against a mystery bigger than themselves.
Until the fateful day that Sam is forced to tell Darby the truth. Just when it can't get any worse for her, both teens are kidnapped. Darby must trust Sam one more time for the children's sake, but she isn't sure she can trust him with her heart again.
