What's In A Cover?

We've all heard the saying, "You can't judge a book by it's cover." But, let's be honest, we do judge a book by it's cover. It's our first glance, a taste of the genre, tone, time period.

According to Psychology Today,  judging a book by it's cover is due to brain chemistry. Thirty percent of the brain cortex is the visual area. No wonder attractive covers gain our attention over boring or amateurish ones. Add the visual area of the brain to the fact that approximately 65% (some studies suggest 90%) are visual learners, the cover of a book becomes more and more important.

One thing I hate is when books are re-released and the cover is different. I can't tell you how many times I have purchased a book only to realize I have already read it!

Along the side you will see a couple of my favorite covers, I love the color, the layout, the subject. They lend to what is in the book and drew me to them.

What are your favorite covers?

If you look at the bottom of my blog, you will see the list of what I've been reading, the myriad of color is amazing-no wonder we LOVE a great book cover.

That's it according to Maddy~
